ALICE AH MEE GO CHANGALICE AH MEE GO CHANG
Age 87, of Honolulu, Hawaii, died peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 3, 2010, in Kaneohe after a full life surrounded by family, good fun and big feasts. Born in Honolulu on March 14, 1923, she married her McKinley High School sweetheart in 1941, and together they raised three children, working hard to put all of them through Catholic schools and to buy a long-dreamed-of home in Alewa Heights. Alice enjoyed mahjong, poker, kung fu movies, plays, family picnics at the beach and parties of all kinds. Easter egg hunts were a tradition at their house, along with noisy, sumptuous New Year's Eve feasts. A longtime cafeteria baker at Washington Intermediate School, Alice's cookies were legendary, along with her gau, Christmas fruitcakes and Chinese soups, to name a few. She traveled to China, Europe, Alaska, Panama, Australia and more, and especially enjoyed Las Vegas, Disneyland and San Francisco. In later life, she delighted in her grandchildren and numerous family dogs (Kiele, Cleo, Pono, Jaspar, Sassy Ming Toy, Chomper and Pono Wells). She came to be a role model of devotion for her family and attended Mass as long as she was able. Prayers and hymns were a comfort to her, especially 'Amazing Grace.'
Aloha, Mom. We always will love you and miss you.
Alice is survived by sons Roy (Helen) and Nelson (Carol) and daughter Renee (Clayton) Chang-Yamada; grandchildren Craig, Kevin, Scot (Sherry), Kelly, and Erin (Tyrone) Wells; great-grandchildren Paige and Ashton; sisters Margret Yee and Betty Chang; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by loving husband Dai Bew, brothers Albert and James Go, and sister Ellen Fong.
Funeral services will be at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 19 at Diamond Head Mortuary with burial at 12:45 p.m. Family viewing is at 9 a.m., and friends may call from 10 a.m. Aloha attire.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
