Priscilla "Pebbles" Glander, PhD- born November 16, 1936 in New York City passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer on November 7, 2010. A retired pharmaceutical consultant, Pebbles graduated from Northfield School for Girls, earned her B.S in Chemistry from Smith College in 1958. She moved to Honolulu with her family in 1965. While raising her three children, she worked as a research scientist for the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Leahi Hospital. She earned her doctorate in Pharmacology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1981. She then moved to California to continue her research at Marin General Hospital. Upon retirement she returned to Honolulu in 1995. Pebbles stayed active playing competitive tennis and bridge and was a sustaining member in the Junior League of Honolulu. She loved to travel, visit family and friends, and explore the world but considered Hawaii home. She is survived by sons: Chris Searl (Heather) and Clay Searl; daughter: Betsy Searl Crawford (Neil); four grandchildren: Lauren and Marshall Crawford; Jack and Ryan Searl.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Tuesday, November 16, at 8 a.m., followed by a scattering of the ashes from an outrigger canoe at sea. Loose flowers are welcome. Donations may be made in her name to the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (www.crch.org) or to Cancer Research PLCO-Hawaii.
