DEAN CLARK THOMAS DEAN CLARK THOMAS Dean Clark Thomas, age 51, of Waikiki died September 13, 2015 while visiting Port Angeles, WA. He was born in Johnson County Indiana on February 26, 1964 and moved to Hawaii with his family in 1967. The family lived in Kailua, Hawaii Kai and Makiki. He attended Punahou, Kaiser High School and K.C.C. An avid surfer, he found joy, serenity and peace in the ocean whether the waves were small or gigantic. He competed and placed in a number of amateur surfing meets. He worked at the Kahala Hotel Maile Room while taking food service classes at Kapiolani Community College in the 1980's. He obtained his real estate license but realized he didn't like working inside (office/paperwork). He later learned carpentry skills while working in the maintenance department at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Waikiki. Dean became a finish carpenter and shared space at Kamani Woodworks; where he designed and made custom koa furniture and cabinets for residential and commercial clients. He entered several furniture pieces in the annual Hawaii's Woodshow for several years. His many friends fondly remember that he always had a smile and a helping hand. He is survived by: daughter - Veronica Pumehana Thomas (a senior at University of Miami); mother - Nancy Thomas of Honolulu; father - Brian Thomas of Waimea; brother Brian Thomas, Jr. (Lety) of Signal Hill, CA; sister - Darlene (Roger) Ledin of Vancouver, WA and uncle - Ronald Thomas of FL.
