EWARD ALFERES

82, of Kailua died October 3rd 2010. He served in the Air Force, and was a retiree of both PWC and the City and County of Honolulu.

Known as a devoted, hard-working, brilliant man and a jack of ALL trades. His laid-back approach to life could put even the most stressed at ease. He had the warmest smile and an awesome sense of humor. His wise words were spoken soft so you had to listen carefully. This loving, caring gentle-man will be missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Zoe Ann; Son Glen; Daughter Roxane; Grand-daughter Tahani; Grand-son Kekai; and Sisters Julia (Eddie) Nakamoto and Dorothy (Robert) Fukumoto.

Memorial Services to be held Thursday, October 21st at Hawaiian Memorial in Kaneohe. Visitation 5 p.m., memorial service 6 p.m. Committal service Friday 11a.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetary. No flowers. Casual Attire.

Virginia F. Powell of Denver, Colorado, passed away on September 23, 2010, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Powell and her son Patrick Walter Powell. Virginia was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Genevieve and Walter Wright. She worked at the Bell Telephone Company in S1. Louis. Virginia and Walter were married in 1941 and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1958, they moved to Denver with their five children. Virginia is survived by her daughters Susan (Jack) Beyer of Denver, Colorado, Elizabeth, Katharine (Byron) Blekeberg of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and her son, Thomas Cary Powell. In addition, she is survived by her three granddaughters, Ashley Beyer, Adriane Blekeberg and Jennifer Blekeberg. Her sister Dorothy and her brother Harold preceded her in death. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Catholic Church in Denver, Colorado, on September 27,2010. Gravesite services were conducted by Rev. James Zastrocky at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen, Colorado, with interment immediately following.

78, of Maile, Hawaii passed away June 14, 2010. He was born to Alice and Albert Lee Lewellen May 18, 1932 in Cedar City Utah. Served as a Staff Sergeant in The U.S. Marine Corp at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Graduated from the University of Utah with Bachelor of Science Degree in 1954 Received a Certificate in Data Processing in 1963, Master of Science in 1979 and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Computer Science in 1980. Recognized by The Marquis Who’s Who in the World in Data Processing (as a computer scientist) 1968, Who’s Who in the West (as a businessman) in 1991 and Who’s Who in the World (scientist of note) in 1997. As an active member of Rotary since 1952, he was also a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Jean Lewellen. Daughters – Terry Lutje, Cindy Lewellen-Tagavilla , Jill Lewellen-Aiona. Son – Kris Lewellen. Grandchildren – Dawnell Goodin, Michael Smith, Jedidiah Lewellen, Lucas Lewellen and Laneika Tagavilla. Great Grandchildren – Amica and Alexa Furno, Stryder and Korbyn Lewellen, Nila Goodin and Kingston Tagavilla-Ragonjan.

A private ceremony will be held at Nanakuli Beach Park on Saturday Oct 23, 2010 at 10:30a.m. Friends welcome.

It’s been nearly a year and we are bringing his ashes home to the north shore. Shorty Logsdon, 87, passed away in Hilo November 14, 2009. A long time resident of Haleiwa, he was a former member of the Outrigger Canoe Club and an Army Veteran of World War II. 90, born on April 26, 1920 in Honolulu passed peacefully on October 5, 2010.

Five months ago, he enjoyed the time of his life celebrating his 90th birthday and 66th wedding anniversary in Las Vegas with family.

He was a successful hotel/apartment developer/owner of properties in Waikiki and Makiki, and a former cargo planner with Matson Navigation.

His long blessed life was filled with love of family and devotion of his wife Helen at his side, traveling the world. Bob is survived by 5 children: Bernadette (Peter Gaskell), Brian, Soozee, Randal (Amy) and Claudia. He is also survived by his sister Lillian Y. Ching and, 7 grandchildren: Jeff (Tracy), Robby (Dana), Rusty, Tony, Kelly, Michael and Marcus; and 2 great grandchildren Morgan and Remy.
