BETTY AIKO KANAYA
BETTY AIKO KANAYANOVEMBER 11, 1923 MARCH 16, 2017 Betty Aiko Kanaya ofKailua passed peacefully at age 93 surrounded by her family. Betty enjoyed a full and happy life as a devoted wife, mother, aunty, grandma, and member of Harris United Methodist Church. A 1941 graduate of McKinley High School, Betty married her classmate and the love of her life, Edward Kanaya, in 1947 following his service with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in World War II. Betty and Ed celebrated 66 wonderful years together until his passing on May 27, 2014. Ed and Betty were always in perfect harmony. While Ed taught music to students and performed for the Honolulu Symphony, Betty organized the books and kept track of his busy schedule. She was his lifelong partner his constant source for support and inspiration. Betty is survived by son David (Wendy) and daughter Wendy (Jay) Ichiyama; granddaughters Lea (Derek) Wong, Jenna (Chad) Itokazu, and Kara Ichiyama; great-grandsons Skyler and Cody Wong; daughter-in-law Christa Kanaya; sister-in-law Misaye Tanabe; and many nieces and nephews. Along with Ed, Betty was predeceased by sons Gary and Paul. The family is very grateful for the care and compassion Betty and Ed received from Hospice Hawaii and the Kailua House. Mahalo! Betty's life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation starts at 10:30 a.m., with services at 11:00 a.m. The family requests no flowers. Casual attire. Private inurnment for Betty and Ed will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. They are together again making music. We love and miss you!
