FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Marilyn Markle Tacker
July 15, 1930 to March 22, 2017 Marilyn Markle Tacker was born July 15, 1930 in Port au Prince, Haiti where her mother, Eloise, and her father, Captain GL Markle, a US Navy chaplain, were stationed. In 1950 she was married in Honolulu, HI to her late husband, Joe Tacker of Corinth, MS who preceded her in death last August. Marilyn is a graduate of the all-girls Sullins College Academy in Bristol, VA and completed her Bachelor of Elementary Education and 5th year Teaching Certificate at the University of Hawaii in 1963. She taught for several years, leaving the profession to take care of her family responsibilities and pursue her love of horses. Marilyn and Joe's roots to Hawaii were very deep, staying there to raise their two children. In 1979 they relocated to Monterey, CA when Joe retired after nearly thirty years as a pilot for Hawaiian Airlines. Marilyn was active locally in the Monterey Peninsula community and will be sadly missed by many local friends. She volunteered with the Hospice of the Central Coast, as well as the Adult Literacy Program at the Seaside Library. She had a lifetime love of animals and a gentle caring nature that gave her an uncanny ability to train them. She participated in bird watching, canine obedience and agility activities, as well as becoming an accomplished dressage horse rider. Marilyn and her husband Joe traveled extensively throughout Europe and China. For a few years Marilyn was a co-owner of a small import liqueur business, Grutzmacher, based in Berlin, Germany with her long-time friend Gerda Rayne. Our Mother and Grandmother passed away at home on March 22, 2017 from complications brought on by her Parkinson's disease. Her strength of character and bravery at the end of her long life were an inspiration to all of her family and friends. Marilyn Markle Tacker is survived by her daughter, Trula, of Golden Valley, AZ, her son, Peter, of Thousand Oaks, CA and her granddaughter, Elise, of Boise, ID. She was known as "Auntie Mike" to her nieces and nephews and loved them all deeply. The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove, CA will be handling the memorial. There will be a small service held on Saturday, April 15 at 11:00 am at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea on the grounds of the El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove with friends and family welcomed. Interment will be later in the summer with her husband at Punchbowl Military Cemetery in Honolulu, HI.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
