Donna Maria Fasone McLaughlin
Donna Maria Fasone McLaughlin Donna Maria Fasone McLaughlin, 67, passed away March 28th, 2017 after a brief illness from complications of Leukemia and Lupus. She was surrounded by her family, loved ones and friends. She is survived by her loving husband John Curtis, her mother Maria L.S. Bobbin Fasone; her sisters Ava Kerr, Luzette Carter (Steven Culbreth), Aleta Dowsett (James); and her brother Donald Fasone, Jr. (William Pulaski). She will be missed by many adored Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. Donna was born February 26, 1950 at Kapiolani Hospital, she was the eldest of five children from Donald and Bobbin Fasone. She was raised in Honolulu, Guam, and California where she graduated from Los Gatos Unified High School. Entering college she attended San Jose State University and graduated from the University of Hawaii with a B.A. in Special Education. She married John in 1974 and moved to California where she started a career in Finance specializing in Government Securities with Blythe Eastman & Dillan and Citicorp. Donna and John returned to Honolulu in 1983 where she found it difficult to find a job. She was eventually hired by Prudential Securities as their receptionist and within a few years was promoted to run the office operations once her qualifications were noticed. In 1992 her father convinced her to run a new family endeavor called One Fas Lube in the Costco Salt Lake Shopping Center. As the President she led this company that was service oriented, socially conscious, and altruistic. She believed and lived her life in giving back to the community. She loved a competition and excelled in community sponsored events. She led her company in winning the Compadre's Chili Cook Off twice and The Easter Seals Hawaii Ginger Bread Festival Overall Winner. That led her introduction to the Pearl Harbor Rotary Club where she promoted child literacy, book clubs, and Rotary Interact. She held the Presidency for 2 consecutive years in 2007-08-09. In 2007 One Fas Lube closed due to the departure of Costco and the non-renewal of their lease by Target, thus opening up Donna's re-introduction to education. She worked for the DOE as a Special Education substitute teacher in Central Oahu where she fulfilled her calling. She loved most working with children and helping them with their deficiencies and watching them grow from her tutelage. She possessed grace and wisdom, had a fun-loving and selfless disposition which made her approachable to all. She had a profound love of learning, respect for all people, and always put her best foot forward in all endeavors. Her phrase she used for the last few years when times were challenging .."Neva Mind!" This will always be etched in our hearts and minds. She will be cherished in our hearts for many years. A service CELEBRATING HER LIFE will be held MONDAY APRIL 24, 2017 AT THE KO'OLAU BALLROOM / CONFERENCE CENTER. VISITATION 5-6 PM. SERVICES AT 6PM. PUPU AND ENTERTAINMENT TO FOLLOW. Lei encouraged in lieu of flora.
