Edward Lanakila Brighter
BRIGHTER, Edward Lanakila, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away April 17, 2017. Born in Kamuela, Hawaii. He was a Korean war veteran, a retired heavy equipment operator for Grace Pacific Co. and a singer with The Motet Group. He played music and enjoyed most of ALL kanikapila with his brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, James Kaleimaemae and Mary Ann aka Meleana (Kahinu) Palaika Brighter; sixteen (16) brothers and sisters; his 1st wife Jacqueline Pele Chow Brighter; and his 2nd wife JoAnn Elias Brighter. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Betty Arlene (Whitlow) Brighter; son, Victor Kalani Brighter (Jon); daughter, Jan Kehaulani Lunsford; step sons, James LeMaster (Travis), Wayne LeMaster (Margie), David LeMaster (Leigh); step daughters, Elsie Mae Balgas, Charlene (Kawika) Keaweehu, Darlene Cruz; grandchildren, Naneakoamaka (James) Livingston, Wilbur Lunsford, Janine Kau'ileolani Lunsford; great grandchildren, James Kapilioha Livingston, Jacqueline Kekamaehuokalani Livingston, Jonah Kamanuiokalani Livingston, Jersey Keahemailieikealopali Livingston, Julian Lanakila Lunsford; and many other family members. Funeral services will commence as follows on April 29, 2017 at the Brighter Estate located in Kamuela, Hawaii on the Big Island of Hawaii. Visitation 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. services at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow. Those of you who wish to share your musical and dance talents please join us in Edward's Celebration of Life!!
