Patricia Makaula “Loke” Dela Vega
On the morning of April 4 2017, Patricia "Lokelani" Makaula Dela Vega was peacefully called home by Our Lord Jesus Christ while hospitalized at Straub Hospital. At her bedside was her husband of 49 years, Jonathan, son Darryn (Noe) Dela Vega and daughter Jonalyn (Troy) Shimasaki. Patricia was born in Honolulu on October 4, 1947, and is also survived by brothers Donald Ranario, Ronald (Mary) Dela Cruz and Anthony (Malia) Koko, sisters Bernadette (Sterling) Nii, Lorraine Delay, Anna Victor and Elizabeth (Rick) Ahina. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Kualii, MacKenzie, Hannah, Boyd and Aulii, all of whom were the joys of her world, and hanai daughter Bernie Gasper, as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Patricia was proud of her Hawaiian lineage and enjoyed dancing with Puanani Alama's studio and later with Halau O Kamuela under Kumu Kunewa Mook and Kumu Kaui Kamanao. She was also a member of Hale O Na Alii and served as a board member for the Honolulu Civic Club. One of her most memorable moments was serving as chairperson of the Holoku Ball committee, which brought the annual Holoku Ball back to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel after an absence of many years. Patricia was a 1965 graduate of Farrington High School, and had been employed as a loan officer for the former Liberty Bank, as a sales representative for several jewelry manufacturers, and later retired from American Savings Bank. Celebration of Life Services will be held at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Chapel (47-200 Kahekili Highway, Kaneohe, HI 96744) on Friday, May 5, 2017.
