75 of Honolulu passed away on June 8. He was the only son of the late James Alexander Rathburn and Helen Uilani "Dardie" Boyd Rathburn. While growing up he was affectionately referred to by his nickname "Bull". He was also known for his remarkable height, which served him well in his basketball career as an all-star outstanding player for Kaimuki High School, Church College, and the U.S. Army. He also played for and coached for Jolly Rogers, Mikilua, and Fab Five. Being an extraordinary athlete coupled with his quietly kind and giving nature proved invaluable throughout his 40 years with Parks and Recreation where he sponsored many youth programs and mentored numbers of youths, even being referred to as "Pops". He was an avid collector of memorabilia, enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends and family, and especially cherished ''his son" Kimo. He will be missed by all who were blessed with knowing him. Memorial Service will be held at Oahu Cemetery Chapel (2162 Nu'uanu Avenue) on Wednesday July 5, 2017. Visitation from 10:30-11am, followed by Service, and Lunch. Aloha/Casual attire.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
