WILLIAM (BILL) NEWTON MAXWELL (LT. COLONEL RETIRED)William (Bill) Newton Maxwell passed away on June 17, 2017 in Lancaster, Ca. Bill was born in Burbank, Ca on August 3, 1938. He graduated from Escondido High School, where he participated in track and field for the school. After moving to Hawaii, he continued on to college and received a BA and Masters Degree and from University of Hawaii. After graduating from college Bill received his commission in the US Air Force and obtained the rank of Lt. Colonel before retiring after 24 years. During service in Vietnam, as a B-52 Radar Navigator he received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with1 Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC), Air Medal with 2 OLC and Air Force Commendation Medal. After retiring from the Air Force he obtained his teaching credentials from University of Hawaii. He began a second career as an educator, teaching English at Castle High School in Kailua, Hawaii for 20+ years. He enjoyed classic cars, scuba diving and surfing. He was a member of the Elks Club, sponsored the Castle High School Key Club and supported various charitable organizations. Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Leocadia "Toni" Campos-Maxwell. Bill is survived by his children Colleen, William, JoAnn, and grandchildren Channing, Taylor, Piper, Liam, and Jack. Interment will be held 31 July 2017 at Punchbowl National Cemetery at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
