RAFAEL PLANA RIOS
RAFAEL PLANA RIOSBorn Rafael Plana Rios on October 10, 1914 in Penuela, Puerto Rico a centenarian at 102 years old. He came to Hawaii at the age of 7 with his mother Elena Rios a brother Frank Rios and 3 uncles Andres, Nicolas, and Philip Rios. Later 3 more brothers were born John and Francisco Quinones and William Martin. In his early years he ran cross country and relay races going around the island. Palama Settlement is where he spent his free time. As a young boy he would caddy for some popular golfers. He began to play golf and found that he enjoyed and loved the game so much that he kept playing until he was 85 years old. He worked as a mason for 30 years at the Pearl Harbor Navy yard. For vacation, he enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with his brother Frank and friends. He was a member of the Puerto Rican Association of Hawaii where he enjoyed talking to all his friends when they met. He loved his family and friends and we all loved him more. We will miss this fun, helpful, and generous man. He died of natural causes. He was survived by daughter Priscilla Ann Helenihi (George), 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, step daughters B. Jeanne Rio and Lorraine J. Alexander (deceased) (Donald), step son Adam Rio (deceased), step grandchildren: 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held on July 27, 2017 at Our Lady of the Mount Church. 9am viewing, 10am mass with lunch to follow, 1pm burial at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetary. Rest In Peace beloved dad and grandfather. Until we meet again, you will forever be in our hearts.
