Joan Halford Rohlfing JOAN HALFORD ROHLFING Joan Halford Rohlfing passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, in her home in Honolulu. She was 86 years young. Joan was born and raised in Honolulu, the oldest of four children of Dr. Francis John Halford and Marjory Atherton. Her brother, Dr. Peter Halford, lives in Honolulu. She was a descendant of Christian missionaries Amos Starr and Juliette Montague Cooke and a life-long member of the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society. Joan attended Punahou School, Hood College, and George Washington University. She was an enthusiastic member of the equestrian team in college and an avid skier. Joan was married to former State Senator Fred Rohlfing from 1952 to 1982 and is the mother of three boys. She was an incredible homemaker and do-it-yourself woman who could repair anything in the house. If she didn't know how to fix something, she would figure it out. Joan worked as a travel agent at Tiki Travel, Trans Atlas Travel, and HNL Travel Associates and journeyed extensively throughout the world. She was a dedicated member of The Garden Club and Junior League of Honolulu and served on the Board of Directors for the Atherton Family Foundation and the YMCA of Honolulu for many years. Joan was preceded in death by her son Brad, brother Frank, sister Julie, and companion and partner David Clark. She is survived by sons Fritz (Deon) and Karl (Trisha), their father Fred Rohlfing, grandchildren Renate, Frederick, Markus, and Marissa, great-grandson Luke, brother Peter, and stepsister Patricia Wightman Johnson. Visitation at 4 p.m., memorial service at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, in the Atherton Memorial Chapel at Central Union Church.
