Charmian (Ann) Jefferies

Posted On September 3rd, 2017 -

Charmian (Ann) JefferiesLost her long struggle against Alzheimer's disease on August 24, 2017 in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of John, the devoted mother to Stephen (dec.), Gabrielle (dec.), Helen and Trevor, and grandmother to five boys. Her loss leaves an aching gap in her family that is only alleviated by the knowledge that she is finally free of the inevitable indignity inherent in advanced Alzheimer's disease. Charmian came to the Islands with her family in 1964 and soon began work in Honolulu as a real estate agent: she operated her own firm, Ann Jefferies Inc. until her departure for Arizona in 1983. She was a person of dignity, and impeccable honesty, the firmest of friends, and a matchless source of support, love, and care for her family. Among her many passions perhaps the highest was a lifelong love of tennis, which she played with a determination that reflected her joy in the game and her will never to give up. The following words, in memoriam from her children, well summarize the fine qualities that marked this caring and beloved woman: Our mother was a strong, loving, smart and determined woman with a great spirit of fun and adventure. She endured some tough times in her life, and gave us great examples of fortitude with dignity and love. She lost two children during her lifetime, and suffered through years of dementia. She traveled widely with her devoted husband, John. She was an avid tennis player, an accomplished seamstress and loved doing jigsaw puzzles and crocheting blankets for her grandchildren. Her greatest legacy to her daughter was her strength, and a sense of fun and wonder. She instilled in her son a love of fresh air and exercise, and provided him with the most concise yet excellent parenting advice ever - "Teach your children honesty and integrity; everything else is just noise."
